Hi! I’m Madison. Welcome to Sugar + Salt!
In my experience, the world can be broken into two types of people: those who eat to live, and those who live to eat. This blog is dedicated to those who, like me, fall into the latter.
For as long as I can remember, I have been completely infatuated with everything food related. My childhood hobbies included creating restaurant menus and taping myself host fake Food Network shows (my specialty was just-add-water muffin mixes). By age 8, I had checked out and read all of the cookbooks from both our elementary school and public library. Did I mention how cool I was?
Unlike my love for magic sets and overalls, this childhood passion has stuck with me into adulthood. I am constantly dreaming about my next meal and brainstorming new recipes. My food philosophy is simple: balance. This is obviously not a new or revolutionary concept, but it is so extremely powerful. It goes like this:
- 80% of the time I eat and prepare fresh, healthy meals. Veggies, quinoa, fish, salads, etc. Fresh ingredients, bright colors, strong flavors. Feed your body food that will energize and nourish you.
- 20% is pure indulgence. Cookies (lots of cookies), cheese, bread, alcohol, etc. Now, we’re not talking processed junk food. When I indulge, it is in delicious, rich, homemade delicacies. Life is too short to only eat kale…you sometimes just gotta go for the cookies.
Here on Sugar + Salt, I share with you my healthy and not-so-healthy recipes. I’ll let you decide what balance means to you!
